About Alston Murphy, architects of Newcastle upon Tyne

About Us

Alston Murphy Associates was established in 1992. Iain Murphy, the Principal, qualified at Newcastle University in 1978 and worked in private practice throughout the intervening period, culminating in 1989 in a founding partnership in what was to become one of the largest practices in the North East of England. The desire for a more direct and personal involvement in practice and design lead to the setting up of the present practice.

David Kershaw joined the practice in 2002 following 31 years in practice, the last 16 with the RPS Group plc (formerly Brian Clouston and Partners) in several roles, culminating in Technical Director in the Durham office.

The practice employs a further six full-time members of staff, including architects and technologists with a broad range of knowledge and experience, In addition, following the introduction of CDM Regulations, the practice is able to offer Planning Supervision as one of the services available.

Professional Indemnity Insurance cover is maintained with a current indemnity limit of £2m. A statement from our insurance brokers will be provided if required. The practice has comprehensive CAD facilities and a range of graphic skills to assist with presentation of project work.
